"Skate Bench" was an installation for a small gallery show. It consisted of a concrete/wood bench with angle iron on one side and a cassette recording of me and my friend Susannah skating it.

"Skate Bench" weighed over 1000 pounds and came in three pieces. The show was in a loft space with no elevators. The space's entrance had a flight of 20+ steps at a 45 degree angle. My then boyfriend Scott, our friend Dave and I had to lug this thing up the stairs. The de-install was traumatic. I found a space for it in front of local skateshop. When we moved it there Scott, smashed his fingers. Needless to say, I vowed not to do huge sculptures.

"Skate Bench" lived in front of the skate shop and was skated on for a year until the shop relocated to a different neighborhood. The shop owners contacted me and I said I would come and get it. I never did. They moved it down the street in front of a bus stop and it sat there for awhile. Months later I moved in the neighborhood "Skate Bench" lived in. I would walk pass it. Eventually kids to the top of the bench and left the blocks it sat on. I would walk by the remaining pieces and notice it would get moved around every so often. This continued for over a year, until one day they were gone. I figured the city took it to the dump.
