Dads and Grads, plus state subsidized sex changes
June 11, 2008

Raul, Raul, Raul, first your daughter bats her lashes for state subsidized sex changes, ok that's a given, but now you are providing external incentives for workers? Who knew that Cuba could have championed a state sponsored transgender revolution AND revamp communism, with a mild flava of capitalism. Raul, don't worry your face won't get comodified and put on a t-shirt worn by young Evergreen College students (like your bro and his pal Che), but it might get tattooed on young transgendered men and women.

Other news, my dad was on the news for not being up to code. In broken English, he did a good job of portraying himself as an honest immigrant doing his best to raise a family. Kiro 7 was this a slow week for news? This is why I don't watch local news: it lacks substance.

Last note: this is the coldest June I can remember. I went to a graduation at Qwest Field, and I was bundled up in a winter jacket and a scarf. Luckily, I am off to LA for warmth and to watch my brother get his Masters in Mechanical Engineering, and to remind him that I was the first Chang grandchild to be Master Chang, and he is only just the first male grandchild.

One LAST things: Unicorns in real life! Heck yeh!

Zombies, aliens, and freaking awesomeness
June 1, 2008

Zombies have inspired my mom to excercise, for real. She watched 28 Weeks Later, and I am Legend, and wants to be fit to outrun zombies. I can't wait for a movie about overweight zombies, too apathetic to kill, oh wait, that's a reality thing called: Generation X.

All jesting a side, maybe it might be worthwhile not to cross out the apocolyptic zombie scenario.

Aliens, yeh, Indiana Jones, you bummed me out. The Jones' legacy is going to that annoying kid from Transformers. Way to ruin Transformers and Indiana Jones with a horrible archetype of "young american man."

For better news, the Carry 5 walk raised almost $50k, had over 400 people there. Thanks family and friends for your support, we raised like $720 (Ed, Kinza, Amy W., Robert, Mom, Thea, Annika, the Samujh Family. Thanks Rana Shmait and Girls' Group for raising like $3000, Amanda Arquines for getting the word out, Shaina Folely for getting such rad people involved, and Reed Walton for throwing the first benefit! Thanks for those that showed up to the walk like Aunt Christine, Justine, Joyce, LAB, Camille, Shaina, Jen, and Jeff + friends.

You all rule.

I am pretty in love with life. I am also in love with this song/video by Gnarls Barkley.

I love the South.

Football!
May 17, 2008

My friend CC plays on an indy pro women's football team called the Seattle Majestics.
They have a game coming up today, that I can't make, but hope you all can go.

They are 4-0, but are up against Sacramento, formerly 3x national champs and still a real threat to our season.
So if you feel inspired to drive to Kent to watch football in some good weather, here is the info:

Where: Kent Meridian High School (French Field)
Kickoff: 1PM
Tickets: $12

I also can't make this one: June 7th is their last home game vs Oakland, so be sure not to miss that one!

I love MOM
May 11, 2008

IF you haven't said happy mother's day, you suck. I don't care if your mom is crazy either. I spent the day making mini quiche for my mom and drinking chardonnay from the Columbia Valley. I am still trying to finish the bottle. I cooked to RadioZero's Podcast #48.
It starts off with Cut Copy. It's brilliant.

I went and saw Cut Copy when they were in town. They are brilliant. I also realized that I can't go to shows anymore, since I can't stop myself from analyzing it to death. I am freaking old! The Black Kids played and all I could do was say to Lanna, oh oh the singer sounds like a whinier Robert Smith. Oh they're like this, they're like that. I can say that I like that they had two hot curvier gals, but I think it's a bit stereotypical to have girls play keyboards. Did I mention they had two? Over all I think they looked overworked. It was more like they were indentured servants than a band having fun. I guess that's the life.

----in other news---

Things are so weird. Like for example the snow in spring time in Seattle, or the older junkie lady on the bus that was singing "go go tokyo" when i got on the bus and sat down next to another young asian guy. she proceeded to stumble towards us and ask the young man what city was on his printed hoody. he told her tokyo, which got her more excited and she sang more "go go mr. tokyo... Godzilla."

She also talked about a concert in 84 or was it 80, in which the young man replied "wow that was a long time ago, i was just born then." in which the lady-bum calculated "oh so you are 28."
i was impressed since she obviously lacked the basic motor skill of walking, i guess quick mental math is still locked up in a safe place where it won't get robbed.

She left the bus singing, "im outa here like a rocket and mr bus man if you're nice i may give you all the change in my pocket." dt/capital hill buses are so entertaining and slightly dangerous compared to my e.side commuter bus rides.

----now give me your money----

Carry 5, now.
April 01, 2008
Seriously, no joke.

Hey family and friends:

I just want to put a few things out there to you:

Carry 5 (www.carry5.org) is rolling! Remember the walk for water? Well a hand full of amazing women and teens have been busy organizing and putting events together.

events
April 18 Water 1st, Beer 2nd! (Seattle)
April 19 Music and Dessert (Redmond)
May 01 Carry 5 Art Show (Seattle)
May 24 Benefit Show (Redmond)
May 31 Carry 5 Walk for Water (Seattle)

If you go to the website there is more info: www.carry5.org

How to support you ask? You have many options:
1. attend one of the functions
2. register for the walk (http://firstgiving.com/water1st)
3. pass the email along/encourage your circles/networks to participate
4. or lastly if any of the above is too much effort, please sponsor me for the May 31st walk!
(seriously I set a goal for $1000, so far I have raised 0%) http://www.firstgiving.com/nancychang

If I raise $1000 I will throw a thank you party! I am going to allow anyone that registers for the walk to count towards my $1000 party mark (It’s $10 to register). Just email me your link so I can recognize you and put you on the Carry 5 website.

This is for real however any messages that I have left during today saying that I am pregnant/getting an arranged marriage, or becoming a scientologist is false.

Thanks for reading this. Hope things are well!

-Nancy

ps I am going to have a contest in my head to see which networks of friends/family can raise the most money (just in case you want me to name them: EvansLife/Alums, Family, OFH crew, h.s. to undergrad crew, art crew, skate crew, and random internet/Canadians. I hope I haven’t left anyone out, like East coast crew and expats.

Just say no to Kids?
March 17, 2008

Just do it, just say "NO!"

There’s an antigang bill in Washington State that is trying to "reduce gangs" through Johnny Law’s hard baton, instead of providing young people with support and activities to do.

The supporters of this bill are also the ones that are responsible for cutting the language that would provide funding for afterschool prevention programs.
I think that there is a direct correlation with, the attitude of putting kids in jail instead of paying money to keep them healthy, out of jail and engaged in our communities.
Please help us tell the State Legislature that we want better schools not bigger prisons.

More info on the bill: http://apps.leg.wa.gov/billinfo/summary.aspx?year=2007&bill=2712

Please review the bill, and if you believe that it’s a bad idea, please sign this petition, and tell Gov. Gregoire that this is a really bad idea:
http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/veto-the-wa-state-gang-bill

Last I checked there were almost 800 signatures, but 10,000 need to be collected.
Please pass this on!

Thanks!

Babies love me.

Puget Sound is being flooded with tears of fears and joy for Britney's third child and the feds intervention of the American sub-prime loan market. When it rains it pours. Other then that I am going to the third world. For real.
Here's my visa!
